We competed in the FLW South Africa bass fishing finals at Bivane dam in Kwazulu-Natal from the 23rd to 25th August. It was three days of intense competition between some of the top bass angling teams in the country. The FLW SA finals are the culmination of a very competitive provincial season in which we are proud to have finished in a very respectable 13th in the Gauteng division.
The finals on the other hand were not as much of a success as we would have liked, conditions were extremely tough, so much so that many teams weren’t able to weigh in any fish at all. The competition was won by a Kwazulu-Natal team ‘Team Gamakatsu Outdoor 365‘. They will be competing in the international FLW division in the USA at Lake Guntersville in November.
As far as the Garmin echoMap goes, being able to have the 9 inch display on the bow of the boat was incredible. We found the chirp side view and chirp down view very helpful while locating potential fishing spots. Once a spot was located the ‘Panoptix livevu forward’ came into it’s own, being able to track fish movement as well as bait movement and depth, while the boat is stationary – Something we have never experienced before.
I’m sure with more time, using these features, our results will improve dramatically. Having 3 days of competition fishing without a practice day, we were unable to test the Quickdraw contour HD mapping software on the unit. This is something I would love to get to grips with, as the benefits of mapping an area during your pre-fish will be massive as will the ability to highlight and target certain depth ranges.
Once again we would like to thank everyone involved from Navworld. We would really appreciate your support for the upcoming FLW season and would be proud to represent Navworld and its products in future.
